Olaplex Hair Care Review

I bit the bullet and purchased the entire Olaplex haircare line 3 months ago. I’ve been testing it out religiously so I could write an honest review.

I have naturally wavy, fine, somewhat damaged hair. I get highlights a few times a year and that definitely dries out the ends. I was seeking a hair treatment that smelled delicious, used clean ingredients and would both repair and maintain my hair’s health.

I tried four steps of the Olaplex protocol to see if the process really works. Note there is also a No. 7 Bonding Oil to use at the end of your routine, but I have a hair oil I really love already!

  • No. 3 Hair Perfector This mask reduces breakage and strengthens hair. You apply to dampened hair before you shower. It is a little awkward to have a wet hair mask and walk around the house for 10 minutes before you shower - but I only used this 1x a week. I felt like this product was the most unique of the line and I would 10/10 purchase it again.

  • No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo This shampoo lathers up nicely and smells AMAZING. (This is the best smelling product in their line, hands down.) I liked that it advertises repairing split ends and I definitely felt like my hair was very clean after using.

  • No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner This moisturizing conditioner was lightweight and easy to rinse out. I focuses on using it on my ends. I really liked this conditioner, but not sure it “stood out” anymore then another high end conditioner. Bonus points for being clean, as usual!

  • No. 6 Bond Smoother This is a leave-in styling cream you distribute through your hair after the shower. It is protective against heat tools and speeds up blow drying time. I’ve used similar products from different brands, and they all make my hair kind of… greasy. I liked this cream overall, but use it sparingly to avoid a “heavy” feel.

Overall, at $28 a pop this product line can get expensive. I loved the idea of using ALL of the products from a cohesive product line instead of my usual hodge-podge of hair brands. I have noticed my hair is stronger, healthier and shinier. (To keep it fair, we have been in quarantine and I have been using less heat styling and attending less hair color appointments, so this can also be a factor!) I’d say give Olaplex a go, especially if you have damaged hair from hair dye or heat tools!
