Take A Hike
October 2 // à la Sarah Kurdt
With the state of the world the last 6 months, I have been craving nature more than ever. The combination of the fresh air, the physical activity, and the mental break from screens have been just what the doctor ordered. In addition to going on regular hikes on the gorgeous trails outside of Philly, my friends and I also went on a (socially distanced) weekend camping trip to the Catskills last month. I find myself feeling more centered, happy and sleeping better on the days I spend outdoors.
Most recently, I went to a remote cabin for a week in Swan’s Island, Maine with my boyfriend and his family. (Long story… but I’m dating my best friend Gwen’s little brother, so she was on the trip too!) My favorite part of the trip were the long morning hikes which would end in our delicious packed lunches of turkey, swiss & avocado sandwiches with crunchy potato chips. (Is there anything better then eating lunch outside?!)
To get you inspired to head outdoors this weekend, I compiled a list of my “must-have” hiking gear:
Patagonia Mini Hip Pack I ended up using this fanny pack almost everyday this summer! It is perfect for throwing your phone, keys and credit card in.
Lululemon City Adventurer Backpack I love the “girly” look of this backpack, and it’s perfect for overnight trips as well.
Hydroflask I have the hot pink Hydroflask with the straw, and it has made me drink significantly more water then I usually would. It also keeps your water chilled for HOURS.
Perfect Bars My personal favorite flavor is Peanut Butter! These are refrigerated bars, but can be left out room temperature for up to 7 days.
Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 This is non-sticky and non-greasy. The perfect lightweight formula (with clean ingredients) for a long day.
Evan Healy Nourishing Eye Balm Even though it is technically an “eye balm” I use this as a lip balm and cuticle cream as well! It has a really soothing & natural scent. Great to have around in that dry mountain air.
The North Face Bucket Hat #Trendy and has a string so it won’t blow off in the wind.
Keen Hiking Boots I bought a half size up in these classic hiking boots, and recommend wearing them with thick socks. They changed the game when it comes to hiking - I feel like I can conquer any terrain in these babies.
Patagonia Baggies Shorts An airy, loose fitting short that dries super quickly when you’re sweating on the trail. I also wear these all the time to run errands and to travel.
Bombas Neon Socks I had heard good things about these socks (they donate one pair of socks for every pair bought) and they live up to the hype. They are thick, comfy and cute. Perfect for keeping blisters at bay.
OllyDog Portable Dog Water Bottle If you are bringing a dog along on your trailblazing adventure, this is a must! The bottle comes with a small removable doggie bowl to pour the water in.
Enjoy some fresh air! Let me know if I missed anything! Xx.
